American, 20th c.
An abstract figure painter, designer and illustrator, Stanley Bate served as art director of Encyclopedia Brittanica in NY from 1927-1929. He taught at the Art Student’s League of New York and his illustrations appeared in numerous national publications over the course of his career .He studied at the Art Student”s League with George Bridgman and also in France and Switzerland.
