Mary Shore was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1912. She studied at the Cooper Union Art School of Design and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She married the East Gloucester, MA based poet Vincent Ferrini. Mary Shore was one of the many highly regarded modernist painters who lived and worked in the Rocky Neck Artist Colony, an area of East Gloucester rich with artistic, intellectual and political ferment. She was a founding member of the Cape Ann Society of Modern Art and also co-founded a quarterly magazine of arts and letters “Four Winds”.
